The Golden Age

Today is the day I will be traveling back to the
golden age of piracy. In the early 1700's there 
were thousands of pirates which is why It is
referred to as the Golden Age of Piracy. I am 
going back to meet Anne Bonny, a female 
pirate who took on the life of being a male to 
make a life for herself at a time where men 
made all the decisions.

 We have just arrived in the Golden Age of 
Piracy and now our mission is to find Anne Bonny and get on her ship. She became part of her husband,
Calico jack's, ship. Once we found the ship in the harbor we snuck on board. We were just in luck they
were about to sail away and were having a crew meeting togo over the plan.We stood in with the other
crew members not really listening to the captain and what he had to say. We were much too busy trying
to spot Anne Bonny out in the crowd. 


Once we found her we waiting until they meeting was finished and 
as everyone was going to start preparing their stations to set sail we
fought our way against the crown and caught up with her. Upon 
talking to her we found out that she was on the ship because her 
husbandCalico Jack was the captain of the boat. He had invited her
along with him to get away from her old lover. She was grateful for 
that but she really just wanted to make a name for herself and 
couldn't do it by just being a house wife. So she used Calico Jack as
leverage.

 Captian Jack was not the best pirate but he sure did know how to 
spend money. especially the money him and his crew took from 
attacking small ships off the coast. Unfortunately Anne fell 
pregnant and was left in Cuba to deliver the baby without Captain 
Jack. We managed to get off the boat while they were stopped in Cuba to dump Anne off. We 
couldn't believe that jack would just leave her like that after her tried so hard to get with her. We
tried to help her out as it became clear she was about to go in to labor but she refused. She said she
didn't need anyone to help her. She ended up giving birth to a beautiful baby boy and leaving him with
a relative that happened to live in Cuba. She couldn't just give up on her dream of becoming a pirate and
making a name for herself just because captain jack got her pregnant.

 We decided that we had seen enough of Anne and her very outgoing life and personality so we went
travelled back. She truly was one of the greatest pirates with the make fearless decisions she 
made and how she wouldn't let anything get in the way of her dream

When you think of pirates you think of buried treasure and pirate ships and someone in an eye patch wearing an eyepatch. This was what the movie made the pirates look like when in real life they were not like that at all. They were very harsh to prisoners and were not as much worried about burying their treasure as they were having it on board or wearing it.  When reading Under The Black Flag by David Cordingly he talks about how some pirates would keep their prisoners in very tight quarters with not enough room to even lay down and bring them about for them to be beaten and abused by him or the members of his crew. When they were done with the prisoners they are often cut into pieces and thrown overboard. This came as a shock to me that pirates were actually this cruel to people.Now this is a very different story from what Disney and the others have made pirates out to be. Sir Henry Morgan

Henry Morgan was a Buc anneer who was not shy about plundering and pillaging to make a profit. after many successful raids he was a very wealthy man who bought a plantain in Jamacia and became a husband to his cousin Elizabeth henry. he was well respected by many people in his time. he was made a kings men and was made lieutenant governor of Jamacia. he was widely known as an ambitious and lively person. His most notable accomplishment was his capture of panama in his privateer days. Which permission from the king he and his men set out to capture panama and steal their ships. When they arrived in Panama they met up with some of the Spanish and when it looked like they would have been severely outnumbered Henry Morgan did not let that bring him  down. Common myths about pirates

When you think about pirates you often think about they way they are represented in movies or children's book. Unfortunately a lot of the information is not real. One of the most common myths about pirates is that they made their victims walk that plank. This was in fact a rare for of execution in the 18th and 19th century. Some other common ones were that they buried their treasure so no one else could find it, that they wore eyepatches and had peg legs . There is so much real things about pirates that got overlooked by the myths they have been portrayed in famous movies and books that most people today don't know what real life pirates actually did and did not do.
