Torterous ways

Pirates used various ways to torture victims of crime . most of the ways that were used upon pirate ship were extremely true and violent.
Being a pirate meant there were numerous ways you could find your self in the position where you were being punished.

If your stole or did not follow the orders of the ship given out by the captain of the ship you could find your self in a lot of trouble which ended with being punched in a very cruel way. as mentioned in the pirates code of conduct, no boy or women was allowed on the ship and if they were t find one on board they would been killed. if you leaved at a time of war when you are found you will be marooned.

All of the previous offenses could get your nose and ears slit and be left on the next land that was reached on the ship. You could be put to death. keel hauling was a well known torture device that is when they tie you to ropes that go under the boat and pull each of the ropes one at a time making you scrape against the bottom of the boat until you drown or something in the water eats you. It was very painful because the boat would scrap off the skin on your back until there was nothing left. This was just one of the many extremely harsh and violent ways that you could be punished during the golden age of piracy.

In my opinion I think that these were too harsh for the so called crimes that people were committing. I get that they wanted to get their point across but there are many ways they could have done that which did not include having your skin scrapped off, being thrown over board or being left to die on abandoned island.

The Golden Age

March 11, 2020 Today is the day I will be traveling back to the golden age of piracy. In the early 1700's there  were thousands of pirates which is why It is referred to as the Golden Age of Piracy. I am  going back to meet Anne Bonny, a female  pirate who took on the life of being a male to  make a life for herself at a time where men  made all the decisions. We have just arrived in the Golden Age of  Piracy and now our mission is to find Anne  Bonny and  get on her ship. She became part of her husband, Calico jack's, ship. Once we found the ship in  the  harbor we snuck on board. We were just in luck they were about to sail away and were having a crew meeting togo over the plan.We stood in with the other crew members not really listening to the captain and what he had to say. When you think of pirates you think of buried treasure and pirate ships and someone in an eye patch wearing an eyepatch. This was what the movie made the pirates look like when in real life they were not like that at all. They were very harsh to prisoners and were not as much worried about burying their treasure as they were having it on board or wearing it.  When reading Under The Black Flag by David Cordingly he talks about how some pirates would keep their prisoners in very tight quarters with not enough room to even lay down and bring them about for them to be beaten and abused by him or the members of his crew. When they were done with the prisoners they are often cut into pieces and thrown overboard. This came as a shock to me that pirates were actually this cruel to people.Now this is a very different story from what Disney and the others have made pirates out to be.
